Beyond the Headlines: WinStar's 25th Anniversary

Kenny Troutt has always thought big. After co-founding a telecommunications company with longtime partner Bill Casner, he shifted focus to building a top-tier, full-service Thoroughbred breeding and racing business. In February of 2000, he and Casner purchased Prestonwood Farm—now known as WinStar.

A decade later, the partners realized one of their early ambitions when WinStar homebred Super Saver won the 2010 Kentucky Derby (G1). The same year, Troutt took over as sole owner. WinStar continued to thrive, breeding and/or owning standout names in horse racing such as Drosselmeyer, Funny Cide, Swiss Skydiver, Creator, Tourist, New Money Honey, and Shedaresthedevil to name a few.

In 2018, Kenny Troutt’s ambitious vision culminated as Justify become the 13th Triple Crown winner. "Kenny always believed we would win the Triple Crown and, quite honestly, I didn't have that same belief because I felt it was too unattainable," WinStar’s President, CEO, and racing manager Elliott Walden said. Since 2003, WinStar-bred horses have earned over $144 million, with the farm recording more than 1,100 wins and $105 million in earnings as an owner, both solo and in partnerships.

"Is there still more to accomplish? Yes, win another Triple Crown!" exclaimed Troutt.
