This is a 5 day timelapse of a carnivorous sundew (Drosera binata) coming out of winter dormancy. The leaves grow and unfurl each spring covered in red, dewy tentacles which capture prey.
Sundews evolved to catch insects using sticky dew-tipped tentacles on their leaves. Once caught, the insects will be slowly digested for their nutrients that the plant needs to grow. In the wild, these plants live in soils with low nutrients and get their essential nutrition from insects.
This species has leaves on thin stalks that fork into a T shape. Other variants of this species branch twice into a 4 pointed leaf, and some can branch many more times into 70 points!
