Today’s shave took a frugal and reflective turn as I reused leftover lather from previous sessions—proving that a great shave doesn’t always need a fresh puck. Armed with the Feather Artist Club SS, I explored the backdrop of the War of 1812, a conflict sparked by high-seas harassment, the impressment of American sailors, and a complex tangle of grievances with Great Britain.
We touched on the bombardment of Fort McHenry, which inspired The Star-Spangled Banner, and how the war gave shape to a national identity still in its infancy. I also shared thoughts on how we so often define eras by their wars—and how the quiet in-between moments get overlooked.
