San Diego ARES member Mike N2DDS recounts the planning that led to the Valley Center Amateur Radio Club (VCARC, of San Diego County, California) installing several Winlink VARA FM gateways. The mountaintop locations of the VCARC VARA FM repeaters provide durable email connectivity to most of San Diego County, California. VARA FM repeaters operate on VHF or UHF frequencies.
