Nusula Namutebi was a traditional female singer who recorded around twenty shellac 78 records.
This song can be considered a protest song against the cultural Baganda tradition that women were not allowed to eat sheep, chicken, lung fish, hog and some fish.
But it is foremost a song of protest against the dead of Mangada (Magdalena Kikwangire) who swore a life of chastity and was assaulted and brutally killed by Antonio Barugahare who wanted to make her his wife in 1955. After torturing her she was crucified on a tree.
A memorial site was erected in Kagongo Ibanda, in the western part of Uganda. She was 33 when she died.
Baraguhare was hanged.
