Anthony Davis avoided surgery on his injured left hand, which is big, but this still isn’t nothing. The injury involves ligament damage, and even without an operation, hand ligaments take time because you can’t really “rest” your hand in basketball — every dribble, catch, contest, or fall stresses it. The current estimate is about six weeks to heal, but realistically this could creep closer to 8+ weeks if swelling, grip strength, or pain lingers. Surgery would’ve meant months, so dodging that is a win, but ligament healing is unpredictable and easy to re-aggravate if rushed. Given Davis’ long injury history and Dallas clearly thinking long-term, it makes sense to be cautious here, especially with trade talks heating up and the team not forcing him back into a lost stretch of the season.
He's probably out for the season because of the fact that the Dallas isn't going to make the playoffs this season. If you just rest him up and probably just trade him in the offseason, it would work out for both parties in my opinion.
