On April 27, students burnt an effigy of the Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University outside his residence after he attended an Iftar party organised by Mahila Mahavidyalaya on campus.
Iftar celebrations at the Banaras Hindu University campus in Varanasi in the presence of Vice Chancellor Prof. Sudhir Kumar Jain took place. Along with the Vice Chancellor, the daily teachers and students of the Women's College broke their fast and had Iftar.
Objecting students took to the streets to March and burn an effigy of the Vice Chancellor outside his residence to protest against the event. Students alleged that there is no tradition of organising such an event inside the campus.
