短編小説

「天空遺跡の獅子」

風は高く、雲は静かだった。
足元の石は、何百年も前の祈りを覚えている。

旅人は、剣を抜かなかった。
抜いた瞬間に、何かが終わる気がしたからだ。

巨大な獅子は、眠っていたはずだった。
けれど次の瞬間、
黄金の瞳が、ゆっくりとこちらを捉える。

“試す”でも、“殺す”でもない。
ただ見ている。
まるで、魂の重さを測る天秤のように。

旅人は、息を整え、ほんの少しだけ前へ進んだ。
戦いのためではない。
逃げないためでもない。

——ここから先へ行く資格があるか。
それを確かめるために。

獅子のたてがみを撫でる光が揺れ、
遺跡の空気が、ひとつぶんだけ重くなる。

そして獅子は、
“世界の朝”の方向へ、ゆっくりと首を向けた。
