In the cold tundra of Siberia, a dig site has been organized as a large group of Hydra agents gather around a crashed starfighter. They keep their weapons trained on the cockpit as they finish their excavating. Scanners hum as they inspect the entire ship, detecting a faint heartbeat.

The men are prepared to execute the figure and take the technology for themselves, but a figure marches through the snow and raises a metallic hand. His face is covered while his vibranium arm flickers in the fading sunset. The soldiers all instinctively lower their weapons and listen to him as he receives a private communication from their command.

Winter Soldier: Alive…

The HYDRA agents all look at one another, uncertain of how to get that man out of the cockpit, but they begin working on him immediately. Eventually, they manage to pry the ship open and pull him out, where the scientists are stunned to see his readings. The man, Anakin Skywalker, has vitals that show him far beyond what a normal human has.

It slowly dawns on the scientist just what kind of prize they managed to find. Far more than a simple crash site, they might have just recovered a supersoldier. Orders are sent to the Winter Soldier to transport him to Sakovia immediately.

When Anakin wakes up, he is surprised to find himself in a hospital bed. When he tries to sit up, a hand gently guides him back down to rest.

Alexander Pierce: Relax, you’re not in any danger. You've got a lot of tension in your muscles for someone so you. Solider.

Anakin: Uhhh…ya. In a manner of speaking. Where am I?

Alexander: Earth. More specifically, Novi Grad General Hospital. I brought you here after your ship crashed. I’m sensing quite a story there. I would love to hear it.

Anakin looks at him for a moment. The Undersecretary of the Security Council has a kindly, almost grandfatherly look about him. It kinda reminds Anakin of Palpatine and helps put him at ease. But as they talk, Alexander nods.

Alexander: You’re worried. I understand, you don’t need to tell me anything you don’t feel like divulging. However, I am obligated to tell you that you aren’t our first alien visitor here, and my government has kinda gotten jumpy on that sort of thing. But I want to help you and ensure that you are treated right.

Anakin’s shoulders relax as he hears this. Afterward, the two of them continue to talk until Anakin’s story comes spilling out. The Jedi had crash-landed there due to a hyperspace anomaly. This happened during Loki’s capture of the Tesseract and knocking Anakin’s ship off-course, leading him to crash onto Earth.

It was there that HYDRA recovered him and brought him there. And when that is done, Anakin finds Alexander staring at him, amusement in his eyes mixed with intrigue. He supposed that was only fair. He was essentially an alien.

Anakin: Well then, I want you to know that I mean no harm to Earth, and I would just like help returning home.

Alexander: And my people will do everything we can to help you. In the meantime, I think it is safe to let you out and explore our planet. I am sure you are hungry after a long trip.

Crossbones is assigned to escort Anakin through the city, both to show him around and to ensure that nothing bad happens. The city is both so different and so similar to Tatooine. While the weather is different and there is thankfully no sand, what there is poverty and hardship.

Everywhere Anakin looks, he sees the struggles of people that he has long gotten used to seeing on Coruscant. Cripples and elderly begging on the street, gaunt looking children, and bent-backed adults trying to make a meager living. Above him, all he can see is the grey skies and the run-down buildings made possible only by a government that no longer provides for its people.

Anakin: I see none of this ever changes.

Crossbones: Not with how we run things, we don’t. Our leaders talk and talk about diplomacy, about peace and justice. But where is that talk on the streets? Instead, it's just men like us keeping things afloat.

Anakin: These days, I wonder what the Senate ever really does. But part of me knows I won’t like the answer.

Crossbones: That’s the point. They don’t want people thinking or asking the question of whether the old world is worth saving. If you ask me, it’s simple. If there is something better on the horizon, then none of this matters.
