UDC Has GRIT: Innovation Improves Inmate Health Outcomes
When the Utah Department of Corrections (UDC) teams who manage the Inmate Placement Program (IPP) noticed an area for improvement, they went to work. A delay in recently transferred inmates receiving their critical medications caused more emergency transports to and from the Utah State Correctional Facility. UDC, with Correctional Health Services (CHS) and the County Jails, found a way to make sure inmates never have to go without their meds. The new procedure means far fewer emergency transports, more efficient use of resources, and a safer and healthier environment for staff and inmates.
