About the Job
This one was about as easy as it gets. A wife just wanted to stay ahead of her dog, keep the house fresh. The carpet was builder grade, but honestly in pretty decent shape. Both her and her husband worked, so they weren’t home. Instead, they texted me a code to their smart lock system. No problem—walked right in, handled the job, wrapped up smooth.

That is… until it was time to lock up.

I pressed the lock button. Heard the gears moving. Felt the bolt trying to catch. But when I tugged on the knob—door still opened right toward me. Something said, “Just call the lady.” But nah, my idiotic male ego kicked in. I told myself, I will not be outsmarted by a smart lock. Five minutes later, I’m still there, hitting the button like I’m playing Nintendo back in the day.

Finally, I gave in and called. She walked me through exactly what I was already doing. I had to go step by step just to convince her I wasn’t crazy. After a couple rounds, she finally said, “It’s okay, just leave it unlocked. That thing can be a pain sometimes.”

Nice lady, very understanding. But yea… she was right. It was a pain. And all I wanted was to take my butt home. Shoot!
