The redevelopment of Greenbelt 1 is one of the most significant urban transformation projects currently underway in Makati City. Following its closure in April 2024, the site is being completely rebuilt to transition from a 1980s landmark into a modern, luxury lifestyle destination.

Demolition & Construction: The original structure, designed by National Artist Leandro Locsin, was demolished in mid-2024. Construction of the new complex is currently in full swing.
Target Completion: The mall is scheduled to open in 2028.

Wider Context: While Greenbelt 1 is a total rebuild, neighboring Greenbelt 2 and Glorietta are also undergoing major renovations, with most of those expected to finish by late 2026.

What the New Mall Will Feature
Ayala Land is shifting Greenbelt 1 from its previous "neighborhood service" feel (which housed fast food and repair shops) toward a high-end, global fashion hub.
Luxury Retail: It will house premium international brands, some of which will be making their Philippine debut.
Modern Architecture: Designed in collaboration with global firms like Gensler and Buchan, the new building will feature four levels of shops above ground and four levels of basement parking.
Sustainability: The project is part of a sustainability-linked initiative. It will include:
Energy-efficient fixtures and natural lighting.
A rainwater collection system and direct cooling systems.
Large-scale integration of green spaces to blend the mall with the existing Greenbelt Park.

The "New" Aesthetic: Unlike the Brutalist style of the old building, the new structure will emphasize transparency, walkability, and "resilient" design to handle the local climate.
Park Expansion: More than half of the redeveloped land area is intended to remain as or be converted into open park space to maintain the "Greenbelt" identity.
