The inaugural three-day Police Summit, themed "Efficiency in Action: Optimising South Africa's Policing Potential," was held at Emperors Palace in Gauteng. This event aligned with Chapter 12 of the National Development Plan 2030, which focuses on Building Safer Communities.
The summit drew significant attendance from dignitaries, including State President Cyril Ramaphosa, Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu, Deputy Police Minister Polly Boshielo, Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Andries Nel, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, General Fannie Masemola, and various other stakeholders.
The primary aim of the summit was to address the alarmingly high crime rates in South Africa by critically reflecting on current policing strategies and exploring more effective methods for the South African Police Service. In his address, President Ramaphosa emphasised the need for a comprehensive strategy involving government efforts and community engagement to effectively combat crime.
