More than 56,000 people walked in Toronto on Sunday, May 25, 2025 in the largest pro Israel gathering outside of Israel this year. The annual Giant Walk for Israel was organized by the United Jewish Appeal of Greater Toronto and raised more than $1.4 million.
The UJA noted that Canadian Jews have contributed more per capita to Israel since October 7 than any other diaspora community. (Interesting that they do not consider themselves Canadians but rather Israelis living in Canada.) There was a large contingent of police on hand and Police arrested two men from one of two counter demonstrations.
The event took place after leaders of Canada, Britain and France warned on May 19 that they would take action if Israel does not stop a renewed military offensive in Gaza and lift aid restrictions to the population. Prime Minister Mark Carney's office said that, "The Israeli government's denial of essential assistance to the civilian population is unacceptable and risks breaching international humanitarian law."
