Die ca.6,5 km lange Reststrecke der Paraguayischen Staatsbahn in Encarnación führte vom Lokschuppen, vorbei am einstigen Bahnhof, wo die Aufnahme des Brennholzes erfolgte, durch die Innenstadt via Antequera und Av Irrazabal zum Rangierbahnhof Empalme. Hier fand der Güteraustausch mit Argentinien per Bahn statt.

Zum Einsatz fuhren während unseren Besuches dort ungefähr Morgens und Vormittags je eine Lokomotive vom Lokschuppen zum Rangierbahnhof, verrichteten ihren Dienst, und kehrten Abends und Nachts dann entsprechend in ihr Heimatdepot zurück.

Mit dem Bau des Staudammes Yacyretá stieg der Wasserstand des Río Paraná, Teile von Encarnación, inklusive Lokschuppen, Bahnhof und Teile der Altstadt, verschwanden in den Wassermassen des Stausees.

Damit endete auch diese äußerst interessante Betriebsführung einer wohl einmaligen Bahn.

The approximately 6.5 km long remaining line of the Paraguayan State Railway in Encarnación ran from the locomotive shed, past the former train station, where firewood was loaded, through the city center via Antequera and Av.Irrazabal to the Empalme marshalling yard. This was where freight was exchanged with Argentina by rail.

During our visit, one locomotive traveled in the morning and one a bit later from the workshop to the marshalling yard, performed their duties, and then returned to the home depot in the evening and accordingly at night.

With the construction of the Yacyretá Dam, the water level of the Paraná River rose, and parts of Encarnación, including the locomotive shed, train station, and parts of the old town, disappeared under the waters of the reservoir.

This brought this extremely interesting operation of what was probably a unique railway to an end.
