The entrance is called the House of the Five Senses — each pointed spire represents one of the senses.
When it opened in 1996, it was one of the largest thatched roofs in the world.
The design is by Ton van de Ven, Efteling’s legendary creative director.
🌟 Magical Details
The wooden beams and trusses inside are real timber, designed to feel like a grand market hall.
The shape is inspired by Indonesian architecture, as a nod to Dutch colonial history and storytelling influences.
The thatch is over 16 meters high and contains tons of reed material sourced from the Netherlands.
