Heavy snowfall in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir has led to massive traffic snarls and high-altitude rescue operations, with over 1,000 vehicles stranded near the 9-km long Atal Tunnel in Manali on March 15 due to sudden weather changes and slippery road conditions. Despite the disruptions and an orange alert for thunderstorms and hail in districts like Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur, the snowfall has triggered a surge in tourist footfall, even as the Meteorological Department warns of a fresh Western Disturbance expected to bring more rain and snow across Northwest India starting March 17.
