Instead, the pots are shaped by hand on, usually, a palm tree stump and beaten or battered in to the desired shape with a wood paddle and the woman walks around the pot to achieve the desired shape. Some vessels are not even made using the post but are shaped and closed at the base whilst resting on the woman’s lap.
