Bodybuilding-type training is not a great option for fighters. In fact, it sucks. Training purely for muscle growth or hypertrophy will only lead you further and further out of your weight class.
The volume of training is just too great for you to recover from especially when you are training your combat sport multiple times a week. You can't serve two masters.
This fatigue can increase your risk of injury in training and lead to sub-par training sessions. Additionally, bodybuilding, when performed chronically without other forms of training, will lead to developing adaptations opposite to speed.
For example, increasing co-contractions around the joints is a safety mechanism. However, co-contractions slow down the movement of the limb. Instead, high-velocity strength training develops the ability to switch off the antagonist muscle to enhance speed.
