Mushroom is the conspicuous umbrella-shaped fruiting body (sporophore) of certain fungi.
Popularly, the term mushroom is used to identify the edible sporophores; the term toadstool is used for poisonous sporophores.
Some mushrooms are poisonous and symptoms range from mild gastrointestinal discomfort to death.
The most common reason for poisoning is misidentification or the close resemblance of edible mushroom species to toxic mushrooms.
Symptoms can appear after 12 h or longer following consumption.
Toxins will remain in the system and continue to cause harm, meaning raw samples should be retained for identification.
Death caps are found throughout Europe, particularly in oak or beech woodlands.
They resemble several edible and popularly eaten species, such as Caesar's mushroom.
Ingestion leads to liver failure, kidney failure, and death....
