Mainline Montage™ 12: Heading South

In the 12th installment of our Mainline Montage™ series, we begin to head south for Georgia. In the meantime, we made few stops along the way and really covered a lot of ground, and saw tons of mainline railroading action!

First we take a brief tour of the NS Lurgan Branch, the former Reading Railroad's connection to the Western Maryland in Hagerstown, MD. The line is single tracked with sidings. We hope to explore this line in the summer, as it is a pretty piece of railroad.

We realize this is already a QuickClip™, but we wanted to throw it in here anyway. This is CSXT Train K533 heading west in Cumberland, MD with a UP SD9043MAC in the lead. This is the CSX's Keystone Subdivision.

Next we find ourselves in West Virginia, just south of Charleston. This is also a QuickClip™ that we threw in here for some added action. We'll catch 3 trains in this bit, all on the CSX Kanawha Subdivision. We are in C&O coal country.

We are given a nice tour of North Carolinian railroading as Ben Earp takes us trackside along the NS' Piedmont Division, and later in the day along CSX's Charlotte Subdivision. At this point in our video, the timetables on both railroad will go from east-west to north-south. NS gives a bit more action, however it was a great end to this day listening to these big GEs lug a coal train upgrade past us in Shelby. Visit Ben Earp's site @ http://www.benearpphotography.com/

The next day while we visited the Southeastern Railroad Museum in Duluth, Georgia, we catch a trio of NS trains passing by the museum. And in one exchange, having a battle of the air horns with SRM's Georgia Railroad GP7 #1026. Visit SRM's site @ http://www.srmduluth.org/
