From a baseball legend’s legacy to the future of prostate cancer care — Dr. Todd Morgan shares why Active Surveillance matters, how guidelines were saved, and what’s next for patients.

Following his acceptance of the 2025 ASPI Special Advocacy Award (see here: • Dr. Todd Morgan Receives the 2025 ASPI Spe... ), Dr. Todd Morgan shares a deeply personal and forward-looking presentation on the state and future of Active Surveillance for prostate cancer.
Speaking in honor of baseball great Ryne Sandberg, who recently passed away from metastatic prostate cancer, Dr. Morgan reflects on why the work to prevent overtreatment — and save lives — remains urgent.
In this talk, he revisits the 2021 NCCN guidelines controversy that briefly removed “preferred” status from Active Surveillance for low-risk prostate cancer, explains how the decision was reversed, and outlines what’s next for improving patient outcomes.
Highlights include:
Current NCCN guidelines for low-risk prostate cancer and their real-world application
Long-term data from the PASS Active Surveillance registry showing survival and metastasis rates
Emerging innovations — digital pathology, AI-based risk prediction, and the move toward biparametric MRI
Lifestyle insights — how exercise could play a powerful role in cancer outcomes
