Here's the story:
The tale goes that a flood of the Kempsey River cut off the beer supply to Taylors Arm, leaving the patrons with no beer.

The publican had some beer in stock, which he secretly sold to his mates, but forced all other patrons to drink wine and spirits.

A songwriter, Gordon Parsons, a mate of Slim Dusty, reportedly wrote the song on an experience at this very pub.

The Song's Impact:
• Slim Dusty's recording of "A Pub With No Beer" was a massive hit, becoming the first Australian single to achieve gold record status and reaching number one in the UK and Ireland.

The song's popularity led to the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Taylors Arm officially changing its name to "The Pub With No Beer" to capitalize on its fame.
