Around 17 MPs and more than 125 MLA cross voted for NDA Candidate Draupadi Murmu. Opposition who started with unity failed to stop cross voting within it. "Presidential election is meant to be a conscience vote. Even in the past, when Shiv Sena was part of NDA, it voted for Pranab Mukherjee when he was UPA candidate. This is a time when the Opposition is being tested", says Sanjay Jha. "Not supporting Oppn candidate (for V-P polls), doesn't mean that TMC doesn't support Opposition unity. We're not an ally of Congress, we're a like-minded party. Everybody has to be treated equally", says Dr. Shashi Panja. "Yashwant Sinha appealed for conscience vote.
