This painting started after a phone call that left me feeling reduced to a number. A barcode. A file. A statistic.
So I went to the canvas.
“Not Just a Number” came out fast, direct, and without overthinking. No perfection chase. No suffering required. Just honest marks and a refusal to shrink.
This piece became the catalyst for a realization I’ve been wrestling with as an artist and as a human. We tend to measure value by difficulty. If it didn’t take forever, if it didn’t hurt enough, we assume it doesn’t count.
This painting says otherwise.
