In this video, I will show you how to do questions involving back titration and how that is different from normal titrations. Using the back titration, we are going to find the percentage of Mg(OH)2 in an antacid sample by first reacting it with an excess amount of sulfuric acid and then titrating the leftover sulfuric acid with sodium hydroxide. I will show you the step by step method: writing balanced equations, calculating moles of acid/base, determining how much acid reacted with the antacid, and finally converting that to the percentage of Mg(OH)2 in the sample.
