High Wind Warnings Expand as Fire Danger Grows across the Plains

Описание: High winds are rushing across the Plains this afternoon through Friday. A High Pressure System off to the West continues to dominate the weather pattern while to the East a series of Low Pressure System moves across the country. The gradient, or difference between these two systems is causing extremely windy conditions to occur from the High Plains down into places like Kansas and Oklahoma.
7 states have high wind alerts active, with more states likely getting added by Friday morning. A high wind warning is in effect through Friday for wind gusts between 50-70 mph. The strong winds are also contributing to elevated fire risks Thursday and Friday. Drier air is moving into already bone dry areas, dropping the humidity and increasing the risk for fires. Top that with the strong winds it means any wildfire that would begin would be hard to contain. For that reason many states also have a red flag warning from Thursday into Friday.
