Happy 100th Anniversary this month to The Phantom of the Opera (1925), released in the U.S. (and Ireland) nationwide on November 15th!
Music video to celebrate one of the most faithful adaptations of the novel by Gaston Leroux, one of my favorite horror films of all time, and one of my favorite Lon Chaney films of all time, if not my favorite, set to the song "Phantom of the Opera" by Iron Maiden, a fantastic heavy metal song!
The narration at the beginning was lifted from a VHS intro of the film by Christopher Lee. I thought it only fitting to add it to my video, given Iron Maiden's love of classic horror and Lee's association with heavy metal.
Dedicated to, among others, Paul Di'Anno (lead singer of Iron Maiden from 1978-81), who passed away in October 2024, Carla Laemmle (Prima Ballerina), who was the last and oldest surviving member of the Phantom cast prior to her death in 2014 at age 104, and of course, Mary Philbin (Christine Daae) and Lon Chaney (Erik the Phantom)!
