In this video we read Chapter 1's section 1 on Numbers introducing the positive integers, natural numbers, the number line concept, the zero or origin, and section 2 on Rules for Addition where we are introduced to commutativity and associativity rules of addition with the integers. We stop at the start of the exercises for these sections with those being completed in the next video to be recorded and uploaded.
0:18 - The Integers
5:21 - N1. 0 + a = a + 0 = a
7:26 - N2. a + (-a) = 0 and also -a + a = 0
10:08 - Rules For Addition
10:15 - Commutativity
10:44 - Associativity
12:52 - N3. If a + b = 0 then b = - a and a = - b
15:17 - N4. a = - ( -a)
16:42 - N5. -(a + b) = -a - b
