There are twelve pharmacology facts that have an effect on the dental implant treatments clinicians provide for their patients. Knowing these twelve facts will improve the predictability of implant therapies. Patients considering implants often have systemic pathologies and require medications that can affect: bone quality, ability to resist infection, oral bacterial flora, bleeding, salivary flow, and soft tissue integrity. This presentation will provide take-home tips that can make the difference between implant failure and success.
Learning Objectives: At the completion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
1. Understand how systemically administered medications can affect oral health
2. Gain awareness of how the patient’s medical history can alter typical implant therapies
3. Formulate insight in how to effectively consult with the patients’ medical providers regarding their systemic pharmacological treatments
Determine how to pharmacologically alter implant therapy to assure successful treatments
