H NMR (Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) spectroscopy is like a map of hydrogens in a molecule! 🗺️
How it works:
Apply magnetic field → protons align
Radio waves flip spins → protons absorb energy
Signals depend on H environment (chemical shift, δ in ppm)
Key info from H NMR
Chemical shift (δ)Where peaks appear (e.g., 0-2 ppm for alkyl Hs, 7-8 ppm for aromatics)
Integration:Area under peak ∝ number of Hs
Examples:
CH₃CH₂Cl: 2 signals (CH₃, CH₂)
Benzene: 1 signal (all Hs equivalent)
