The Farm to Market Alliance (FtMA) aims to enhance smallholder farmers' transition to commercial agriculture by providing support, information, and investment from seed to market. FtMA introduced the Farmer Service Center (FSC) model in Kenya in 2019, establishing a network of more than 900 FSCs in 13 counties. FtMA's priorities in Kenya include ensuring FSC commercial sustainability, promoting Climate Smart Agriculture, expanding into high-potential value chains, and digitalizing value chains and FSCs.
FSCs, which can be rural entrepreneurs, farmer groups, or aggregators, serve as a crucial link between private and public sector partners and smallholder farmers. They generate revenue by offering various productivity-enhancing services to smallholder farmers, such as advice and training, input sales, aggregation of produce, mechanization services, and financial services linkages.
