Early model Aston Martin DB9's were fitted with 'not so great' Multimatic Dynamic dampers. Later in the production run Aston upgraded to using Bilstein dampers that were a better balance of performance and comfort. The original springs and dampers in my 2005 Aston Martin DB9 Coupe are 20 years old now, so I wanted to upgrade. The good news is the later model Bilstein dampers are a direct fit replacement. In this video I show you what parts and tools you need and how to replace your rear strut assemblies.
This is part 2 of a 2 part series on doing the Bilstein damper upgrades on my car. In part 1 I covered details about the specific parts you'd need as well as more of the background on the issue. I'd suggest you take the time to watch the first portion of that video if you haven't already.
Part One - Changing the Front Strut Assemblies -
This video applies to most all VH Series platform cars in both coupe and volante/roadster form, automatic and manual cars including the Aston Martin Vantage, DBS, Virage and Vanquish .
Do your own homework on the parts to get the right ones for your specific car. Cars with the electronically adjustable Adaptive Dampening Systems (ADS) don't use the same dampers I describe in the video, but the process to change them is the same so this video will still be helpful.
This is definitely a DIY project that most owners comfortable with a spanner can tackle in a single day out in the garage.
