This video shows a realistic computer simulation of a Fanaroff-Riley Type I (FR I) radio jet formation based on a magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) framework. The color map shows the 3D Volume rendering of the jet tracer in the simulation.
The magnetized jet originates at the lower z-boundary (left of the image) and pushes into denser gas around it. As it travels, the jet begins to twist and wiggle due to magnetic effects, a behavior known as a “kink” instability. Over time, this instability causes the jet to lose its shape and gradually break apart.
Instead of forming a bright, compact tip, the jet spreads out and becomes more diffuse. This behavior is typical of Fanaroff–Riley Type I (FR I) radio jets, where energy is gradually dissipated into the ambient environment.
