This winter storm will have a major impact on the D.C. area into early next week, with the bulk of snow falling today.
Expect 6-10 inches of snow across the region, higher amounts north and west of D.C., and lower amounts south and east. However, sleet has arrived earlier than expected, which will limit snow totals.
Stay off the roads, officials urged. Metro service is running, but numerous bus routes are suspended or detoured.
Some schools will be closed tomorrow, and closings and delays are possible later in the week, too.
The region has also plunged into bitter cold with temperatures in the teens and 20s.
Storm Team4 declared a weather alert for one of the most serious snow threats the D.C. area has seen in years.
