Guan Yin (China - female) or Avalokiteshvara (India - male) is a Bodhisattva associated with deep compassion for all beings in all realms at all times. I crossed paths with this incredible being or bodhisattva on my spiritual path, and feel that even if She or He is a major saint in the Eastern traditions, we in the West can learn a lot and remember deep purity and devotion towards all beings, if we connect to her or him. It's curious that this saint transmuted from one sex to another in the East, yet in it's own words: it doesn't matter if Compassion is male or female, besides that reincarnation gives us all more than one shape ;)
I think compassion, actual deep compassion, is sooooo needed in this world. What would change if we all had more compassion?!!!!
Guan Yin's name literally means "the one who hears the cries of the world" (or more neutrally "who perceives the sounds of the world"), like Mother Mary she embodies Divine motherly qualities of care and healing. She understands everyone and everything. So only by thinking about her, she can help us. And there are many miracle stories recorded.
Avalokitesvara made a powerful vow to serve all beings to get out of suffering, and to not go to Nirvana before everyone got out of samsara (wheel of fate/karma). Upon breaking because of the immense task he wanted to fulfill, he was given thousand eyes and thousand arms to be able to serve all sentient beings better.
Compassion is powerful! It gives you extra power and will to do things for the better.
I'm always deeply moved when I think about souls that have been so wise and so deeply connected to their own Divine origin that they were able to formulate powerful vows that they kept over and over again!
The other day, I suddenly had this melody in my head and recorded it, as I have learned that what we sing is what we become.
It follows the Eastern tradition of chanting the words:
Namo Guan Shi Yin Pusa means "to bow to/salute/honour to the bodhisattva Guan Yin";
but with my own melody which has more of a Western feel, as I felt the desire to embed Guan Yin/Avalokitesvara in my own cultural and personal vibe. And it was simply what was coming out.
I hope you like it.
