EYES WIDE SHUT is Stanley Kubrick's 13th film. Therefore Eyes Wide Shut is the cinematic equivalent of the number 13.
Of all numbers, the number 13 comes nearest to expressing human nature. As human beings we find ourselves on middle ground, we find oursleves in switching mode. We are both object (1) and subject (3), both male (1) and female (3). The number 13, therefore, is about being BOTH.
