It seems quite obvious that there is equipment in the game that you're simply not supposed to want anymore. Instead - a lot of effort is put in place to make sure you want this new stuff so much more. Sadly, this doesn't make for a wide variety of great content to be visible and viable. Even though some of this older content could be a real pleasure to see and use more often. It just needs some number-tweaking and the willingness to allow older content to serve a purpose, as well.
