What is Abscess?
Abscess is a localised collection of pus that forms when the body’s immune system responds to an infection. This pus is made up of dead tissue, white blood cells, bacteria and other debris. Essentially, it’s the body’s way of isolating and trying to contain the infection to prevent it from spreading. The surrounding tissues often become inflamed and swollen, which can cause pain and tenderness. Abscesses can develop in various parts of the body and usually require medical treatment to drain the pus and allow healing.
