Despite having no musical background in his family, Tunar discovered his talent for music at a young age. He taught himself music with the clarinet and took on various jobs to support his family. He received music education from the Izmir Musiki Society and later became a member of the Üsküdar Musiki Society. Tunar was known for his exceptional technique, unique style, and deep understanding of rhythm. His interpretations and embellishments varied across various genres. He also played the saxophone exceptionally well. As a composer, he created several popular songs and instrumental compositions. Unfortunately, he suffered a heart attack and passed away during Zeki Müren's program in Istanbul in 1962.
Turkish Lyrics
Söyleyemem derdimi kimseye, derman olmasın diye.
İnleyen şu kalbimin sesini, ağyâr duymasın diye.
Sakladım göz yaşımı, vefâsız o yâr görmesin diye.
İnleyen şu kalbimin sesini, ağyâr duymasın diye.
English Translation
I can't tell my sorrows to anyone, so that they won't find a remedy.
So that strangers won't hear the sound of my weeping heart.
I hide my tears, so that unfaithful lovers won't see them.
So that strangers won't hear the sound of my weeping heart.
