Composer Steve Reich discusses how he created his iconic 1965 tape piece "It's Gonna Rain." Using a recording of Pentecostal preacher Brother Walter speaking about Noah and the flood, Reich aligned two Wollensak tape recorders that gradually fell out of sync, eventually creating contrapuntal lines. This was Reich's first major phasing work, and it became a landmark piece of the '60s.
