1. Protesters chanting over massive cuts at the Washington Post UPSOUND:
"Save the Post! Save the Post! Save the Post! Save the Post!"
2. SOUNDBITE (English) Marissa Lang, Laid off Washington Post Reporter:
"Angry. I'm feeling really angry, I'm feeling really betrayed, and I'm feeling a lot of grief, not just for myself and the job that I loved, but also for my colleagues, so many of whom had no idea this was coming. I think a lot of us on the local staff had an inkling that we would be targeted pretty heavily in these cuts, but a lot my colleagues were caught totally off guard yesterday. And I'm also feeling a lot of grief and a lot of anger on behalf of the community where I live and where I work and that I love. I'm a local reporter because I choose to be a local reporter because like to cover the community where I live. I like to be accountable to the people who are my neighbors and my friends. And I really do think that these job cuts are going to have a devastating impact on the DC region."
3. Protesters chanting over massive cuts at the Washington Post UPSOUND:
"Save the Post! Save the Post! Save the Post! Save the Post!"
4. Wide of Marissa Lang speaking to protesters UPSOUND: "We are out here today united as (Washington) Post workers. The operative word in that sentence is workers. We make the Washington Post and we are very grateful to be supported in our fight today, and in the past, by workers in other industries, from other parts of the News Guild and CWA, the Communications Workers of America."
5. SOUNDBITE (English) Portia Sampson-Knapp, Washington, D.C. Resident:
"Well, our freedoms are under attack from a lot of different directions right now and I think that we have to stand up every single time it happens. I'm grateful that I knew that this was happening so that I could be here and show my support. I'm completely devastated and heartbroken by what this means for our country, for our city, for all of these incredible journalists who literally put their bodies in danger to be able to report on this news for us. So I am, I don't really feel like there's a choice. We have to stand up and speak out for the things that we believe in because our way of life is really under attack right now."
6. Wide of Marissa Lang speaking to protesters and supporters UPSOUND:
"Thank you to some of our supporters who came out today, members of the New York Times Guild. (Cheers) Thank you! (DC) Mayoral candidate Janeese Lewis George is here. Members of AFSCME, and other allies and comrades who came out in, the not too cold, to stand with us today and to demand a better Washington Post for us all."

STORYLINE:
Supporters of laid off workers at the Washington Post gathered outside the Post's newsroom and offices Thursday to voice their anger and disappointment over the storied newspaper's massive layoffs, announced one day earlier.
The Washington Post has laid off one-third of its staff, eliminating its sports section, several foreign bureaus and its books coverage. The widespread purge announced Wednesday is a brutal blow to journalism and one of its most legendary brands.
"Save the Post! Save the Post! Save the Post,! the crowd chanted.
"Angry. I'm feeling really angry, I'm feeling really betrayed, and I'm feeling a lot of grief, not just for myself and the job that I loved, but also for my colleagues," said Marissa Lang, a laid off reporter at the Post.
