Rögle player Mathias Tjärnqvist tackles Niemi from behind, which unfortunately results in 3 serious/possibly deadly face/head injuries. He is obviously in hospital right now for various surgeries, and most likely it is where he will stay for quite a while? We all hope that he will recover totally and maybe get back on the ice in the future. If not, we are happy just to see him on his feet some day... His condition is stable, but there are still risks and concerns for his health.
The latest reports say that he is feeling better and better. Hopefully he can follow the rest of Kvalserien together with his team mates!
The incident was reported to the Discipline Commitee, and Mathias Tjärnqvist got suspended for 2 games.
