劉欣宜博士 Dr. Sin-Yi Liou (Paula) (Postdoctoral Researcher, School of Environment and Energy Engineering, Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), South Korea)

劉欣宜博士畢業於美國華盛頓大學,現為韓國光州科學技術院的博士後研究員。她的研究專注於淨水與污水處理中的化學與光化學反應。具體而言,她致力於開發新型高級氧化技術、識別反應性物種、解析其與污染物的交互作用,並透過實驗與建模來量化這些反應在非生物或生物性污染物去除中的效果。她也參與了多項與水質監測、水資源回收再利用,以及污染物分析方法開發相關的政府與產業應用計畫。在這場演講中,她將介紹幾種創新的高級氧化技術,包括新穎的超氧陰離子/次氯酸程序、陶瓷氧化物-氯/過氧化氫程序,以及這些技術在去除微量污染物與微生物方面的效能。隨著超純水在高科技產業,特別是半導體製造中的重要性日益提高,尿素污染已成為一個關鍵議題。她也將分享其最新關於有效去除尿素的研究成果。

Sin-Yi earned her PhD from the University of Washington (UW) in the United States and is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) in South Korea. Her research focuses on chemical and photochemical reactions in water and wastewater treatment. Specifically, she develops novel advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), identifies reactive species, elucidates their interactions with contaminants, and performs assays and modeling to quantify their impacts on abiotic or biotic contaminant elimination. She has also participated in a variety of projects related to water quality monitoring, water reuse/reclamation, and the development of methods for contaminant analysis in governmental and industrial applications. In her talk, she will discuss innovative AOP techniques, including a novel superoxide/hypochlorous acid process, ceramic oxide-chlorine/peroxide processes, and their efficacy in treating micropollutants and microorganisms. Urea contamination has become a significant concern in ultrapure water production for high-tech industries, particularly semiconductor manufacturing. She will also share her latest research on effective urea removal techniques.

陳美寰博士 Dr. Mei-Huan Chen (Ph.D., Geography Department, Pennsylvania State University)

陳美寰博士最近從美國賓州州立大學取得地理學博士學位。他的研究關注環境治理與基礎建設的政治性。其博士論文探討地緣政治、島嶼環境與發展如何影響金門地區的水利設施與水資源治理。在此次演講中,他將說明金門水質治理問題的困境及背後多種物質與社會因素,例如島嶼地理條件的限制、畜牧業污染,以及政策在地方推行上的困難。

Mei-Huan recently graduated with a PhD in Geography from Penn State University. Their research focuses on the politics of environmental governance and infrastructure. Their dissertation examined how geopolitics, island environments, and development influence water infrastructure and governance on the Kinmen Islands. In this talk, they will discuss why water quality remains a challenging issue in Kinmen due to various material and social factors, such as limitations imposed by the islands’ physical geography, pollution from animal agriculture, and the difficulties of policy implementation on the islands.

早期職涯研究者(ECR)工作小組是未來地球台北(Future Earth Taipei)的學術工作小組之一。ECR 工作小組成立於 2020 年底,旨在支持和吸引早期職涯研究者參與永續發展科學和行動。ECR 的活動由 Future Earth Taipei與中央研究院永續科學中心協助與支持。

Early Career Researchers (ECR) is one of the academic working groups in Future Earth Taipei, Taiwan. ECR working group was formed at the end of 2020 to support and engage early career researchers in sustainability science and actions. Our activities are organized with inputs from Future Earth Taipei – Global Secretary Hub and the Centre of Sustainability Science in Academia Sinica.
