While reporting in Kunwar Singh Nagar, we met informal waste workers sorting through garbage on the streets. They are not employed by any municipal body and work outside formal systems.
They handle hazardous waste with bare hands and stand with their feet inside piles of mixed garbage. The workers said they often get injured by broken glass and other sharp materials. They earn only ₹200–400 per day and many are the sole earning members of their families, with no job security, or protection.
This is a daily reality that we have normalised by seeing it so often. Yet this invisible labour is essential to keeping the city clean. This is how life looks on the ground.
