Master the concept of Pseudo Force to solve complex friction problems in seconds! In this video, we tackle the "Block on Accelerating Wedge" problem, which is a favorite in JEE Mains, Advanced, and NEET. We derive the condition for a block to remain stationary relative to the wedge.
Concepts Covered on Board:
What is Pseudo Force?
It acts only in non-inertial (accelerating) frames.
Direction: Opposite to the acceleration of the frame (a).
Magnitude: F_p = ma.
Case 1: Block on Vertical Wall (Accelerating):
The pseudo force provides the Normal Reaction (N = ma).
Friction balances weight (f = mg).
Condition to not slip: \mu ma \ge mg \Rightarrow a \ge g/\mu.
Case 2: Block on Accelerating Inclined Plane:
We resolve the Pseudo Force (ma) into components:
ma \cos\theta (along the slope).
ma \sin\theta (perpendicular to slope).
The Derivation: We find the minimum acceleration (a) required to keep the block from sliding down (or up).
Final Formula: \mu = \frac{g \sin\theta - a \cos\theta}{g \cos\theta + a \sin\theta} (or variations based on direction).
