Introducing our new interactive experience where you can visit Alasdair Gray's creative space and take a tour of each room or explore it yourself in 360 video: https://alasdairgrayspace.net/head/po...
After Alasdair Gray died the Glasgow flat where he lived and worked was dismantled and the contents dispersed. But before that happened it was recorded digitally with the aim of recreating it online. So anyone anywhere could visit and be inspired.
It’s taken 3 years of investigation, experimentation, replans and helping hands to create an interactive experience featuring the 360 scans, that we hope captures something of the spirit of Alasdair and his creative space. And we’re thrilled finally to open the doors and invite you to explore A Gray’s place for yourself.

Alasdair Gray is a creative polymath who’s often described as a genius and regularly compared to William Blake. He’s best known for his novels Lanark, 1982 Janine and Poor Things – which has been made into a film by Yorgos Lanthimos – as well as his murals in Glasgow's Oran Mor, Ubiquitous Chip and Hillhead Underground.

Text transcript: What is home? For Alasdair Gray home was his creative imagination. And he lived there all his life. But while Alasdair lived in his mind, his body lived in physical places. Places where his creative imagination escaped to cover walls and surfaces. The places Alasdair lived were all borrowed, rented or loaned. Temporary. And when Alasdair died the last place he lived was emptied. But Alasdair’s creative imagination still lives in the words and pictures he left behind for us. And the last place he lived still exists too. Now in points of coloured light. So we can all explore it and be inspired. Visit A Gray’s place in A Gray Space to take a tour and explore on your own. With thanks to… Fiona Watson for allowing us to use her beautiful photographs of Alasdair’s flat. AlasdairGraySpace.net A Gray Space inspired by Alasdair Gray. Subscribe. Comment. Be inspired.
