I’d heard that Osgoode Hall is considered one of the most beautiful buildings in Toronto that’s not generally open to the public (access is reserved for Lawyers and law students most of the time.) So I was curious to check it out during the annual Doors Open Festival in May.
Osgoode Hall is an iconic symbol of Toronto's legal and architectural heritage. Its history dates back to 1829 when it was commissioned to serve as the headquarters of the Law Society of Upper Canada (now the Law Society of Ontario) and later became home to the Court of Appeal for Ontario.
Designed by architect John Ewart in the late Georgian Palladian and Neoclassical style with Gothic Revival elements, Osgoode Hall's construction was completed in stages, with its iconic façade completed in 1846. Named after William Osgoode, the first Chief Justice of Upper Canada, the hall has since been expanded and renovated, preserving its historic charm while accommodating the evolving needs of the legal community.
