How an Allied General Evaded Capture Behind Enemy Lines

Описание: In late September 1944, during Operation Market Garden, Brigadier John Hackett was seriously wounded during a German mortar bombardment. As the British forces lacked the facilities to properly treat his wounds, the Brigadier was handed over to the German Army and taken to a hospital in Arnhem to undergo a surgical operation. What followed was an extraordinary sequence of events as Brigadier Hackett, with assistance from the Dutch resistance, escaped from the hospital and went into hiding for four months. Then, in January 1945, with his wounds having healed, he set out on a journey across the Netherlands to make it back to Allied lines.
