Here is the original on-set performance of Northern Irish actor Declan Mulholland as Jabba the Hutt, edited back into his scene in Docking Bay 94.

This scene was cut from the original version of the film in 1977, as they ran out of budget to create a stop-motion Jabba for it. It was put back in for the 1997 Special Edition with this CGI. The CGI was then re-done in 2004 for the DVD.

I don’t feel that either digital Jabba really works, but I have a soft spot for this 1990s incarnation because it’s what I grew up with. His voice was dubbed with the alien Huttese language in both of these versions.

Star Wars was largely shot at Elstree Studios in the UK. Several roles were played by local British actors, then dubbed with American or alien voices.
